Training Close Protection Surveillance

Introduction to Self Defence

Five day residential self defence courses and one day intensive courses are now available through Komodo Red. Both are intensive courses that combine both theoretical and practical application of the Komodo Red unarmed combat system. During your course, you will be guided through our system of learning which encompasses everything from situation awareness through to defensive techniques from weapons.  The system you will learn is   one of the most effective and realistic programs on the market today. This system is already taught to Close Protection Professionals and is suited to anyone who wishes to learn an effective system of defence or workers within the following areas:

Close Protection
Specialist Security
Hostile environment security
Lone workers
Individuals working in vulnerable areas

5 Day Intensive Training Course Breakdown
So what will you learn on the Intensive training course?
The very principle of our unarmed combat system is “simplicity”. It should be capable of being taught, absorbed and understood in a very small time frame. We do not spend hours trawling through hundreds of techniques to defend against the same attack. What we do teach is a handful of very simple techniques, which can be applied to a variety of different situations and be applied with devastating effect. We emphasize that you do not require any prior knowledge to effectively learn this system. With all our courses, whether it is a one day course or five day course, we follow the same pattern of learning.

MODULE 1 Balance.
The first principles of our combat system are balance. Without good balance, your body is an unstable platform, unable to defend yourself, let alone a third party. Secondly the balance of your opponent(s); If you’re are able to understand how the body moves and more importantly how it not designed to move, you can effectively disable your opponents and move them off balance.

MODULE 2 – Situation Awareness.
Once you have a basic understanding of balance and balance points we then will start to examine situation awareness. This is fundamental to any system of combat/defence. By being aware of your surroundings and the people around you may allow you to avoid or preempt any escalating situations. Being able to read body language is an invaluable skill to have. Avoiding a situation is far better than confronting it head on. Our principles are; you avoid situations when you can, you preempt situations when you cannot avoid them and lastly if you have failed in the latter you defend against attack.

MODULE 3 – Preemption Techniques.
Now that you are able to read situations and be aware of your surroundings, you have increased your chances in the event of a situation of escalating violence. We will now examine preemption techniques, which are in essence an attack against your aggressor launched before they have a chance to carry out their impending attack. These are short, sharp techniques used to disorientate and cause temporary mental disablement to your attacker. We like to think of this as creating a window of opportunity. Once you have opened the window, you must get in quickly before it shuts!

MODULE 4 – Disabling your attacker.
The window of opportunity is open. You must disarm and disable your attacker as quickly and efficiently as possible.  It is no good, preventing an attack, only for your attacker to recover their composure. If they weren’t aggravated before, they will be now! We will now teach you how to disarm and disable your attacker, covering a wide variety of weapons; knives, firearms, baseball bats, sticks and bottles.

MODULE 5 – Striking and Pressure Points.
We examine, how and where to strike. Strikes must be targeted to maximize their effect. We will look at the different tools that we have to strike with and points on your attacker’s body which can be struck to achieve maximum physical disruption.

MODULE 6 – Third Party Defence.
Defending a third party is no different in principle than defending yourself. We will examine some different scenarios which will enable you to experiment with techniques and principles that you have already learnt. We will also study some techniques particularly useful for the armed close protection officer. We look at the laws of reasonable force and self defence and explain how you can judge your own responses, so that you remain on the right side of the law.

Examination
During this phase you will be guide through a series of scenarios where you will be required to preempt, react and diffuse the situation using the techniques and principles learnt over the duration of the course. This whole phase is based purely on practical testing, and we stress that we do not expect set responses to these scenarios, only that they are dealt with quickly and efficiently by whatever means at your disposal using a level of force commensurate with that of the threat.
